BOOKS ON THE BELIEVER'S WAR AGAINST SIN

  • The Enemy Within: Straight Talk About the Power and Defeat of Sin by Kris Lundgaard [In this short book (157 pages) the author lays out some powerful principles for the believer’s war against sin.  Contains some material that you won’t find in most other volumes.]

  • Holiness: Its Nature, Hindrances, Difficulties & Roots by J.C. Ryle [In this 19th Century classic, Ryle explains powerfully and eloquently what holiness is and how the Christian can grow in holiness.]

  • When I Don't Desire God: How to Fight for Joy by John Piper [What do you do when you don’t want to do what you know you should do?  In this very practical book, John Piper explains how to kindle a passion for God.]

  • The Pilgrim’s Progress by John Bunyan.  [This is one of the most amazing books ever written.  While it is a fictional allegory, it contains many rich truths about the Christian life in general and spiritual growth in particular.  If you understand the concepts underlying the metaphors, you’ll have a biblical and practical understanding of our war against sin.  Try reading both the original (17th century) and modern translations.]
